Meet Jamall Anthony

We recently connected with Jamall Anthony and have shared our conversation below.
Jamall, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Everyone has crazy stuff happen to them, but often small business owners and creatives, artists and others who are doing something off the beaten path are often hit with things (positive or negative) that are so out there, so unpredictable and unexpected. Can you share a crazy story from your journey?
One of the craziest stories is my first time ever coming to Los Angeles to work with an amazing producer/writer duo “The Blueprint”. I actually didn’t have the funds to get the plane ticket until the day before and was working a warehouse job in Pennsylvania where my direct deposit wouldn’t hit for 4 days into my 2 week trip meaning I didn’t have anywhere to stay once landing in Los Angeles. So day 1 after meeting the boys and hitting it off, it just so happened that a friend was staying in Anaheim and it was her last night in California with family and I was able to crash with them and get a ride back to LA the next day because they wanted to meet the band I was working with. So after day 2 of working and with nowhere to go I was prepared to sleep outside on a random street because I wanted to succeed that bad. Nothing else mattered and as I prepared to exit the studio I was stopped by Ryan saying “Hey man, not sure what hotel you’re staying at and I know we’ve only met just yesterday but you can absolutely cancel it and stay here because we love the energy already.” I couldn’t even sleep that night because I couldn’t believe that really happened.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Im from the very small town of Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Writing has always been my escape and safe space from a very young age. there’s no feeling like turning life stories into songs and having people connect to it and feel it in their hearts. I live for that feeling and I’m grateful for every single day I get to write and just let creativity take over to create songs that can change lives & situations and also will be in this world forever. Im mostly proud that I never gave up and continued to pursue a childhood dream that is working out beautifully and when people tell me I inspire them…that’s honestly the proudest I ever feel because I’m just living my life and doing what I love so the fact that I’m just genuinely inspiring people is amazing.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Honestly in this music industry you just have to be a resilient person. You have to be okay with being rejected at time and you gotta have thick skin. Its difficult because music is extremely subjective so some will love your stuff and others will hate it but you have to believe in your work and your talent and I would absolutely say you should build a team around yourself that believes in your vision just as much as you do. Also, don’t give up on songs because sometimes you’ll write a song that will come out many years later so don’t think if it doesn’t sell or get picked up immediately that it isn’t good enough etc. So much has to happen for songs to come out especially with major artist. Timing, Luck and a lot of other stars aligning must take place so be patient and TRUST THE PROCESS !!!!!
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Few things actually, Songwriters are the unnoticed heroes of songs many times. I think a lot of people think that artist just sit in their rooms writing there hearts out and some do but a lot of times it’s a collaborative effort. We have to fight for our publishing and don’t get paid until songs are released and we pray they perform well. We really do need to unite as a whole to get the changes we so desperate need and deserve. So just wanna take a second and say “Thank You” to the unsung heroes of music.
